When I started, I was in my second year on college and was lucky enough to have an inside tip from a classmate who worked for a bank that was recruiting students to train, and they were paying for it. I went to meet the recruiter and learned that they don't always know what the companies to which they work are looking for. My classmate had told me that the bank was looking for inexperienced students to be trained in COBOL, CICS and DB2. When I got to the interview with the recruiter, she asked me if I was experienced in COBOL, CICS and DB2, and, after my negative answer she sent me home. I was not what they were looking for. It was confusing, if they were giving training why would they need people with experience? I talked to my classmate and he told me the recruiter was mistaken. A few weeks later, due to some mistake from the recruiting company, I was called again for the same position and again they asked me the same questions. This time I said that I had experience in all that, so, the recruiter referred me to the company. Then, after lots of tests, including IQ and interview with a psychologist, I was hired and ended up one of the best in my class. From then on, I always tried to learn as much as I could. Information is the key.
